CMAEric Church joined a small group of his friends, co-workers, family and the media at the opening of his new Country Music Hall of Fame exhibit, Inside the Outsider, Thursday night. Before addressing the crowd, Eric went through the exhibit, but admits he got distracted by some of the other country legends on display.
He says with a laugh, “They kind of had to tear me away, ’cause I was interested in the Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard part.”
While looking at the exhibit, Eric thought back to a time when he walked by the original Hall of Fame building on Music Row shortly after moving to Nashville. Eric thought back to what he might say to his 23-year-old self now that he has his own exhibit opening this week.
Says Eric, “I remember just having a moment as a songwriter that had been told ‘no’ a bunch. If I had the chance, if I had a time machine to go back and tell that guy what would happen over the next 10, 15 years, neither one of us would believe it.”
Eric went on to pay tribute to all of the people who have supported his dream to get him to this point.
He closed out his remarks by saying, “I walked through an exhibit that had my name all over it, and here’s what I learned. It has nothing to do with me.”
Eric’s Inside the Outsider exhibit will be open through February 2016.
