Pottawatomie County office building
Pottawatomie County Commissioners have signed a contract with Bayer Construction for improvements at the Highway 24/Excel Road intersection and other work on Excel Road. A starting date of March 28th is planned. The project will take approximately 210 days to complete.
Commission Chair, Dee McKee encourages folks to plan ahead as traffic will be impacted by construction.
The Pottawatomie County Commission is working on ways to improve water drainage in the County. McKee says the Commission decided Monday to fund a study that covers all the drainage from the two creeks that run through Blue Township. The study will take several months to complete.
McKee says driveways were another topic Monday as standard policy in Pottawatomie County is one driveway per property. Installation of a second driveway is permitted on case-by-case basis. The cost of installing a second driveway in Pottawatomie County will be on the rise though. McKee says the reason for the price hike is due to an increase in material costs.

Spring is bringing more activity for Pottawatomie County Sanitarian Scott Schwinn. Schwinn presented a department update to Pottawatomie County Commissioners Monday. Schwinn adds activity in January and February is overall what he’d consider way up over 2015. Schwinn says four Blue Township permits were done in February compared to one last year.

Schwinn also reminds us a free day is planned for April second at the landfill transfer station–he also serves as transfer station/landfill supervisor.  Schwinn says more than 400 participants are expected….but he emphasizes free days is for Pottawatomie County residents only.
The free day is set for April second from 8:30-4:30. A crew of about 25 people will be there to assist with unloading in a safe manner. As many as 500 have turned out for the annual event.
