BMLGThe country/pop smash “Meant to Be” not only became the biggest hit ever on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart — spending 50 weeks at the top — it also managed to grab the first Grammy nominations ever for both Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha.

“That song’s just been… life-changing… another career song, as we call it,” Tyler Hubbard tells ABC Radio. “It’s broke so many records and made so much history.”

“It was all so unexpected and kind of out-of-the-box and un-traditional,” he adds. “So it really just made it that much more special, getting to write it in L.A. with Bebe, just to have it released on her EP first, and to see the traction that it gained…”

“It did so much early on,” Tyler recalls, “that we decided we needed to single it as well to country radio.”

More than a year after its release, “Meant to Be,” is still going strong.

“It’s just a song that seems to never go away, in such a great way,” Tyler explains. “Every night when we sing it, the fans love it.”

He adds, “And it’s just a reminder for us of where we’re at and how thankful and humbled we are by having such a big song that’s really changed our life and changed Bebe’s life, and continues to expand our market to more of a global fan base.”

Bebe is up for the coveted Best New Artist Grammy at Sunday’s ceremony, while she, Tyler, and Brian Kelley could take home the Best Country Duo/Group Performance trophy for their collaboration.

“To finish it all off with… our first Grammy nom,” Tyler reflects, “It feels like we’re the new kids on the block. And it feels awesome.”

The 61st Grammys air Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
