A house sustained extensive damage in an early morning fire Saturday in Leonardville, according to Riley County Fire District No. 1.

Firefighters were dispatched around 1 a.m. to the 300 block of East Chase Street after receiving a report of a residential structure fire.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the rear of the home and the roof. Firefighters initially attacked the blaze from the outside before moving inside to continue extinguishing the fire.

The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes.

Crews remained at the scene until about 4:15 a.m. conducting overhaul operations after part of the roof collapsed. The home sustained extensive damage.

A total of 11 fire apparatus and 24 firefighters responded to the incident. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
