The Geary County Sheriff’s Office handled three separate wildlife-related crashes over the weekend.
The first incident occurred at 8:43 p.m. on Dec. 27 along K-177 near mile marker 83. Deputies say Douglas Ackerman of Manhattan was traveling north in a 2010 Mercury Milan when a deer entered the roadway. Ackerman struck the deer, causing heavy damage to the vehicle. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle was removed by the owner.
A second crash was reported at 9:28 p.m. the same evening on K-57 near mile marker 6. According to deputies, Jonathan Wolford of Junction City was driving a 2018 Ram 1500 southbound when a deer entered the roadway. Wolford struck the animal, resulting in minor vehicle damage. He was not injured and removed the vehicle himself.
The third incident occurred early Dec. 28 at 2:38 a.m. on I-70 near mile marker 304. Deputies say Josef Wallentine of Payson, Utah, was traveling west in a 2016 Chrysler 300 when a raccoon entered the roadway. The collision caused disabling damage to the vehicle, which was removed by Bud’s Wrecker. Wallentine was not injured.
