ABC/Image Group LA It’s just a matter of weeks before we find out if Dierks Bentley could be in the running for an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Even though he wrote “Hold the Light” for the movie Only the Brave, Dierks says it’s taken on an even deeper meaning since 58 people lost their lives at the Route 91 Harvest Festival last October.

“To me, now more than ever, especially after Las Vegas, these are just dark times, man,” Dierks tells The Wrap. “Dark times and heavy hearts. The idea was to hold the light, to find that one little piece of hope. Hold onto that hope of a better time, of what you had and might see again.”

Only the Brave tells the story of an elite group of firefighters who lost their lives while battling a blaze in Bentley’s native Arizona.

The nominations for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced Tuesday, January 23. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are also eligible in the same category as Dierks, for “Keep Your Eyes on Me,” the song they wrote and performed for the film The Shack.

This year’s Oscars will be handed out March 4, live on ABC.
