Sugar Hill RecordsNext month, Josh Kelley hits the road with younger brother Charles on the Lady Antebellum singer’s tour to promote his first solo album, The Driver — and Josh’s latest offering won’t be far behind. His record, New Lane Road, comes out April 22. Both projects boast songs the brothers wrote together.
But even though big brother was in town to talk about his new music, there was another, more important task at hand — meeting Charles’ firstborn, Ward, who’s a little more than a month old. Josh confesses it has him thinking about adding another little one to his clan — and it sounds like his wife, actress Katherine Heigl, is in agreement.
“I just met him for the first time last night — and this morning. He’s amazing. He’s the cutest little dadgum thing I’ve ever seen. I love it, man! He makes me want another baby. Yeah, Katie was saying that too — maybe just one more kid. I told her I can’t promise her a boy, though. I don’t know if there’s any way to promise that,” Josh adds, laughing.
He goes on to explain that even though he has two brothers, these days there aren’t that many male offspring in the Kelley clan.
“There’s not many. My sister has two girls, we have two girls. Yeah, John, my older brother, has one girl and two boys, so yeah. We’re outnumbered. Just like at my house. I’m totally outnumbered.”
Josh and Charles play their first date together Saturday, April 9, at the Fillmore Silver Spring in Washington, D.C., with Josh’s album following a couple weeks later.
Fans who pre-order the project starting Friday will instantly be able to download its first single, “It’s Your Move,” which was inspired by a fight Josh had with the former Grey’s Anatomy actress earlier in their relationship. If you think Heigl minds her husband sharing their struggles with the rest of the world — well, you’d be wrong. She both stars in and directed the music video for the song.
