The city of Manhattan is giving residents an easy way to get rid of their real Christmas trees this holiday season.

From now until the first week of February, Christmas trees can be dropped off near the northeast corner of Long’s Park at the corner of 16th Street and Colorado Street.

David Mattox, the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Forestry Supervisor, says the city puts the trees to good use.

Mattox also advises those wanting to recycle their trees to clear them of any decorations and other foreign objects, make sure the tree is put inside the designated drop-off area and exclude wreaths and other decorations with wiring from the recycling area.

People who lose ornaments in the drop-off process can contact the parks and recreation department.
