BBR Music GroupNot only is Joe Nichols a hitmaker with five number-ones to his credit — from “Brokenheartsville” in 2003 to “Yeah” in 2014 — at home, he’s a husband who also happens to have three girls, two of them under the age of four. At his house, Valentine’s Day is a big deal for Joe and his wife Heather.

“We usually try to do a really cool date night — slash date day– where we do something fun. One year we made coffee cups for each other. You know, we went to a little pottery place and you know, make your own little coffee cup or plate or whatever. And then we go to a nice dinner,” he says, but that’s not all.

“You know, of course, roses, balloons. Maybe a little bit of candy, whatever, for mom.  But that’s about it. Try to do something at least interesting, you know for the day, that’s a little bit romantic, a little thoughtful.”

As for whether he usually manages to live up to the image of the suave balladeer he sometimes portrays in song, the Arkansas native can’t help but laugh.

“I try to, but not most days,” he confesses. “I think mostly I’m just kind of trying to keep up with all the estrogen in the house!”

Right now, Joe is finishing up work on his new album, with a follow-up single to “Freaks Like Me” expected soon.
