Even though “Follow Your Arrow” didn’t have a big impact at country radio, Kacey is happy to see the CMA recognize the song’s message of equality and acceptance.

She says, “It really is a shocker, and I think it says a lot for, not only where country music is heading, but kind of just where humans are heading, and I think it’s cool that I got to be a small part of that.”

Kacey has had the opportunity to perform “Follow Your Arrow” at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City earlier this year. While Kacey is an outspoken supporter of gay rights, she thinks “Follow Your Arrow” has a message for everyone who marches to their own beat.

As for the Song of the Year nod, Kacey adds, ” I think that is just a testament to when someone feels a connection to a message, and it makes them feel a little bit better about who they are.”

“Follow Your Arrow” is also up for Video of the Year at this Wednesday night’s CMA Awards. The show airs live on ABC at 8 ET.
