ABC/Image Group LA2019’s already shaping up to be a great year for Kelsea Ballerini: She has a top-thirty country hit with “Miss Me More” and she’s making waves on the pop chart with “This Feeling,” her collaboration with The Chainsmokers. Plus, she’ll have the chance to do both songs on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on Monday.

“I just remember every year watching, specifically, the New York performances and thinking, ‘This looks aggressively cold,'” she says of the iconic show.

This year, Dan + Shay will be battling the temperature from the center of the celebration in New York City’s Times Square, while Kelsea will be part of the Hollywood Party.

“You know, the heart of it is so celebratory that wherever you’re watching it from,” Kelsea reflects, “whether it’s a party at your house or whatever, you feel that, it comes through. And it’s always been a part of me ringing in the New Year.”

So what is Kelsea’s favorite way to spend December 31?

“This year, it’s performing, which is one of my favorite things to do in the world,” she tells ABC Radio, “so it’s really special to be able to end a year and start a year doing that. But every year I’ve gotten to do it differently.”

“But really just surrounded I think by people you love is very important,” she adds, “to kind of start a year being surrounded by your friends and your family.”

Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina join Kelsea on the West Coast portion of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, while Maren Morris and Florida Georgia Line will be live from New Orleans. You can tune in for the New Year’s Eve tradition starting Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
