During a concert in Philadelphia June 26, Kenny Chesney paid tribute to a local police officer who had been shot seven times in the line of duty the previous day. Officer Christopher Dorman, a part-time officer in the borough of Folcroft, had expected to attend Chesney’s concert at Lincoln Financial Field, but the shooting altered his plans significantly. From his hospital bed, he reportedly said in a video message, “Hey Kenny, don’t forget me.”
Chesney heard about it while he was dressing for the show. When he later took the stage, he paused after performing “I Go Back” and told the crowd, “I didn’t know where in the show I was going to do this … But there’s a line in this song that says, ‘When I hear, “Only the Good Die Young,” it still stops me in my tracks …,’ and I heard that an officer here in Philadelphia who was shot seven times last night — from his hospital bed, he made a video that said, ‘Kenny, don’t forget about me.’ Well, Christopher Dorman, we won’t forget you.”
Later, he dedicated the song “Anything But Mine” to Dorman.
Dorman was reportedly shot in the face, groin, leg and four times in the chest while responding to a report of a drug deal. He has undergone several surgeries, but is expected to recover. A suspect was later apprehended and arraigned on charges including attempted murder.
