Authorities say a man found dead on a walking trail Thursday evening in Washington Marlatt Memorial Park near Top of the World in Manhattan was a suicide.

Kansas State University Police identified the man as Steven Shawgo of Manhattan. No age has been provided.

KSU PD said in a news release Thursday night via Facebook it was notified of an unconscious man in that area and that when officers arrived, they found a deceased man on a walking trail in the park.

K-State Vice President for Communications and Marketing Jeff Morris told KMAN during Friday morning’s edition of In Focus, the land at Top of the World — including Washington Marlatt Memorial Park that hosts many of the trails in the area — is KSU-owned property.

Morris said at this time, there is no criminal investigation regarding the case.

Bill Snyder Family Stadium threat unfounded

K-State Police were also busy with what Morris called a “criminal threat to property” call at Bill Snyder Family Stadium late Thursday night.

Morris said nothing was found and that there is an ongoing investigation to see what led to the report.

“Right now, there’s not anything we are deeply concerned about,” Morris said.

Streets around the stadium were blocked late Thursday night near midnight while the threat was being assessed. Friday morning, RCPD Public Information Officer Hali Rowland told KMAN the department did receive a mutual aid request from K-State PD for assistance with traffic control.
