Miranda Lambert is still coming to terms with her leading nine nominations going into Wednesday night’s CMA Awards. She’s got nods in the Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year categories with Platinum, and Miranda could set the all-time record for most Female Vocalist wins if she takes that category for a fifth consecutive time this year. Collaborations with Carrie Underwood on “Somethin’ Bad” and Keith Urban on “We Were Us” helped her pick up even more nods.
Miranda says, “When you see your name for nine nominations, it’s really shocking. And I didn’t even think I’d done enough in the last year to acquire that or could be in the categories, but then I started thinking about everything I’ve done since November last year, and I’m going, ‘Dang, I was busy,’ you know.”
Getting so much love from CMA voters is an honor Miranda doesn’t take lightly, though.
“I’ve been doing this 12 years for a living now, and it’s like, I’m not doing it for nothing,” Miranda says. “People care, and they’re paying attention.”
Miranda has two performances on the CMA Awards this year, including a duet with pop star Meghan Trainor on her blockbuster hit, “All About That Bass.” That song has become a backstage anthem for Miranda and her band and crew this year.
Miranda says of singing with Meghan, “She asked me to do it, and I didn’t even hesitate because I love the song and I love what it stands for. It doesn’t matter what genre it is. It’s just across the board a great song. And it’s something different for me.”
Since Miranda’s next single is “Smokin’ and Drinkin’,” featuring Little Big Town, we’re guessing they’ll perform that on the CMA Awards broadcast as well.
As for her CMA Awards wardrobe, Miranda is keeping things low-key with her red carpet dress.
She says, “It’s not a lot of glitz. I have glitter nails, but that’s gonna be, like, my only bling besides some jewelry.”
Miranda and her stylist came up with five total looks for Wednesday night.
She adds with a laugh, “It’s crazy, ’cause I have two performances, and a sitting dress. Some of that stuff you can’t actually sit in, you know. Stuff shows.”
The 48th Annual CMA Awards broadcast live Wednesday, November 5 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
