ABC/Randy HolmesEven though Jake Owen‘s current hit, “Down to the Honkytonk,” hadn’t been released at the time, he still named his tour last year after a line in the song.

For the Florida native, “Life’s whatcha make it” is just one of the ways the good-time song expresses the way he sees the world.

“It speaks kind of what I like doing in my life,” Jake says of the song, “and how I like living and having fun and singing along.”

“And I just felt like those are the kinds of songs that I love,” he continues, “and I’ve always felt if I can record the kinds of songs that make me feel good, I’ll enjoy singing ’em. And when I enjoy singing songs and singing ’em for people, they see that. I think they enjoy it, and just the dominoes start falling.”

“And this one for sure is a great feeling song doing exactly that,” Jake declares.

“Down to the Honkytonk” is Jake’s follow-up to his chart-topping song “I Was Jack (You Were Diane),” his update on the John Mellencamp classic. So far, Jake hasn’t revealed when the accompanying album might follow.
