Capitol NashvilleLittle Big Town are among the leading nominees for Wednesday night’s CMA Awards: they and Eric Church both have five nods.  But LBT’s Karen Fairchild says she’s got her fingers crossed for a category in which they’re not even nominated.

Little Big Town’s smash hit “Girl Crush” is up for Song of the Year, and Karen says she wants it to win that category even though the group members themselves wouldn’t take home a trophy for it, since they didn’t write it.  Karen just wants to see the three writers behind “Girl Crush”  — Lori McKennaHillary Lindsey and Liz Rose — get their due.

“I think it would be incredible to watch those three women get up there, not just for country music’s sake — for this great 6/8 ballad about jealousy to win Song of the Year — but just for women too, you know,” she explains. “It’s just such a good thing all around. So, I’ve got my fingers crossed.”

As for the categories in which they actually would win a trophy, LBT’s Phillip Sweet says winning Album of the Year for Pain Killer would mean the most to them.

“Being nominated for Album of the Year is such a thrill, and that’s one we really, I think, want so much,” he says. “Because…I think when you make the whole body of work that’s being recognized by your peers, that’s just really special, y’know: the whole body of work that we put all of that heart and love and sweat and tears into, and to have that nominated, it’s awesome.”

In addition to Album of the Year, Little Big Town is also up for Single of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year, for “Smokin’ and Drinkin’.”  We’ll see just how many awards they take home when the CMA Awards air live from Nashville Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
