Investigations from the Kansas Highway Patrol unveiled a Manhattan man’s death Sunday night, after a crash on Kansas Highway 177.

Derrick A. Holler, 23, of Manhattan was driving his Toyota Corolla, registered to Virginia, going north and driving on the paved median of K-177, just south of the ramp for Interstate Highway 70. The KHP reports Holler hit two traffic signs before colliding with a “bridge impact attenuator” at 10:33 p.m. Holler was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A bridge impact attenuator is a road safety device designed to absorb the impact from a collision and keep vehicles from hitting road structures.
