A Manhattan man pleaded not guilty to multiple alleged crimes including attempted murder at his arraignment in Riley County District Court Monday afternoon.

Jacques LaShawn Toliver, 38, pleaded not guilty to one count each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and assault.

Toliver was arrested Oct. 14 in connection to the shooting of 35-year-old Gustavo Sanchez three days earlier. Officers responded to a report of shots fired and found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Sanchez was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment of his injuries.

Toliver has remained in jail since his arrest, he is being held on a $1 million bond. His case is scheduled to go to trial Sept. 21 and is expected to take four days.
