Manhattan City Mayor, Usha Reddi officially filed for reelection to the City Commission Monday.
Reddi told KMAN that she has enjoyed developing strong partnerships with businesses and institutions of higher learning in the community during her first term as a Commissioner.
“Whether it’s with Kansas State University, Fort Riley, the school district, our local [and]regional counties, that’s something I want to continue working on,” said Reddi.
Although the community continues to grow rapidly, Reddi said there are several challenges the Commission must address.
“We still need to work hard on retaining and recruiting businesses that want to move to Manhattan and see what might entail,” said Reddi “and we probably have to make some tough decisions whether its with Aggieville or with K-State, some of those partnerships where we have some budgetary items that we need to look at very critically.”
Reddi also has a strong desire to continue bolstering the community’s mental health care services for those struggling with a mental illness.
“I think we’re making progress on several areas as far as with RCPD, with Riley County, with Pawnee Mental Health and with Fort Riley, and I want to make sure that that doesn’t drop.”
Reddi has served as Mayor for the past year. Her term as Commission expires this December.
