The Onaga and Havensville Police Chief has filed for election to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s position. Daniel Costlow filed with the Pottawatomie County Clerk’s office Tuesday morning. Costlow is listed as a Republican from Havensville.
Costlow filed by petition, as he says he felt it would be good to visit with and get to know the community. He indicates he learned about lots of concerns and what is seen as the biggest challenges.

Costlow was born and raised in Manhattan and has been in Law Enforcement for 10 years. He has worked as a Wabaunsee County Deputy, Pottawatomie County Deputy, and is the current Chief of Police for the Onaga and Havensville Police Departments.

Costlow lists changes he thinks are needed as improvement of employee morale to slow continued turn over and  improvement in relations with other law enforcement agencies in the State. And he says he believes they can turn the jail into a more self-sustaining entity through different programs that bring money in.

Other goals include combating the growing drug problem in the area, adding while “It is good to chase the drugs in Pottawatomie County… we need to be just as active in preventing the problems from starting, and helping those that want to get out.”

He also mentions involvement in the community, and suggests the Sheriff working shifts with deputies. .

KMAN hopes to chat more directly with Costlow Wednesday morning.
