ABC RadioIt’s been quite a week for newcomer Jordan Davis: his breakthrough hit, “Singles You Up,” is just one spot away from country’s top five, and on Wednesday, he found out it’s been certified gold. Add to that, his debut album arrives on Friday.

He named the disc Home State, as a tip of the hat to the place he grew up.

“I think it’s important that everybody kinda has that Home State love,” Jordan tells ABC Radio. “You know, kinda always tip the hat to the place that made you. And I feel that way about Shreveport, Louisiana, and I feel that way about Baton Rouge and New Orleans.”

When he was deciding what to call the album, Jordan discovered his Home State was his debut’s unifying theme.

“I didn’t want to name the album [after] either a song or just self-title it,” he explains. “And kinda when I was looking back through the track listing of the record, the only thing that was a common thread between all those songs was Louisiana.”

“You know, whether the idea for the song came from being in college in Baton Rouge,” he continues, “or a weekend in New Orleans or something I did stupid in high school in Shreveport… Not everybody’s from Louisiana, but everybody has a Home State.”

Jordan reveals there’s a track titled “Home State,” though you won’t find it on the album.

“I’ve actually written a song called “Home State” with my brother, and he was kinda mad that I didn’t put it on the record,” he laughs. “But as I kept listening to that song, that title kept standing out to me. And I thought it fit it perfect.”

Jordan’s brother Jacob records for Kelsea Ballerini’s label, Black River Entertainment.
