A portion of North Manhattan Ave. will close for part of the day Thursday to allow work to be completed on the east side of the new Aggieville parking garage.

City officials say the road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. between Moro and Laramie Street. Access to the alley south of Moro will be available during that time.

Any further delays will be communicated through the city’s social media.

Extreme heat blamed for two of three Manhattan water main breaks
In addition, the city says extreme heat played a part in two of three water main breaks that occurred last week on Manhattan roads.

The pipe on Houston Street was reportedly a lateral fracture, which is likely caused by aging infrastructure and happens occasionally. The two breaks on Dickens Ave. were said to be radial — meaning the ground shifted and the pressure broke the pipes into pieces, a common occurrence during extreme heat and extreme cold.

The city says all three breaks were repaired within a few hours and only one neighborhood experienced a water service disruption.
