Antwajuane McNeil, 32, of Ogden asked to withdraw from the service of his defense attorney, Julie Effenbeck, on the third day of his trial in Riley County District Court.

McNeil is charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, criminal discharge of a firearm and interference with a law enforcement officer, all in connection with the death of 58-year-old Don Stovall, who was shot and killed Oct. 19, 2024.

Judge Grant Bannister told McNeil that representing himself is not advisable and there are disadvantages to proceeding without a defense attorney.
