ABC/Mark LevineWith a talented group of writers like the guys in Old Dominion, inspiration can strike anywhere.

The seed for their latest #1, “Hotel Key,” was planted during an otherwise ordinary day on the road for Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen and the rest of their band mates.

“You know, we travel a lot. Got hotel keys in our pockets all the time and one fell out of my pocket,” Matthew explains. “And, you know, [I] just wrote down that title and then brought that thing into a write one day and Trevor said his wife actually does keep hotel keys. And it just felt like it would be a fun story to tell.”

Matthew says it’s also turned out to be a fun tune to play in concert.

“‘Hotel Key’ is a good little…dance number,” he points out. “When we start playing it live, you start to see people dancing and…you know, we need some more uptempo stuff in our set… It’s fun to have a little dance tune there.”

“Hotel Key” is the third #1 from OD’s latest album, Happy Endings.

In April, Old Dominion picked up the Academy of Country Music award for Vocal Group of the Year. Later this fall, we’ll find out if they can take home its Country Music Association counterpart, as the 52nd CMAs air live November 14 on ABC.
