Authorities are investigating after a police chase through Junction City ended with the suspect killing himself.

According to the Junction City Police Department, officers with the Grandview Plaza Police Department iniated the pursuit shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday near Cracker Barrel. JCPD assisted by deploying tire deflation devices in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

Just before 8 p.m., the driver abandoned the vehicle near Rucker Road and Fort Avenue, on the city’s northwest side, and fled on foot into a tree line. When officers attempted to deploy a Taser, the man pulled out a handgun and shot himself.

Police say officers immediately rendered medical aid and requested Junction City Fire and EMS. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released his name.

No officers or bystanders were injured and no officers discharged their firearms during the incident.

JCPD says due to the nature of the crime, no further information will be released.
