CARES Act funding
Pottawatomie County has until mid-August to submit a plan for how it will spend about $4.9 million in CARES Act funding it is set to receive.
With such a short timeline, County Commissioner Pat Weixelman says there will be more room for error and misuse of funds.
County Administrator Chad Kinsley says the state government may have created the situation on purpose.

Despite these concerns, the county commission approved a resolution to accept the CARES Act funds during their meeting Monday.
Kinsley says the county should allocate a portion of the money to each city based on population.

The county has until the end of the year to spend their respective funds.
Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization membership
The Pottawatomie County Commission agreed Monday to pay its annual membership contribution to the Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization, an group involved in transportation policy-making and planning in parts of Geary, Riley and Pottawatomie County.
Commissioner Pat Weixelman voted yes despite having concerns about the membership fee being worth it.

The Pottawatomie County Commission recently expressed concern that the FHMPO adds extra layers of bureaucracy when it comes to receiving federal funds.
The commission also heard a budget proposal from the Flint Hills Regional Council, which is requesting about $5,800 for fiscal year 2021.
