The Riley County Police Department is investigating a theft by deception case after a Randolph man was scammed by someone posing as a law enforcement officer.

Officers filed the report at approximately 8:35 p.m. June 24, 2026, in the 14000 block of Grandview Drive in Randolph.

A 36-year-old man was listed as the victim after it was reported he electronically sent $1,000 to an unknown suspect who claimed to be a police officer. The scammer allegedly told the victim payment was required because of an outstanding warrant.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Riley County Police Department or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
