A lawsuit filed in Kansas City making allegations against a former Riley County Police officer has received some clarification from local police officials. As earlier announced by KMAN and according to the Kansas City Star in a Monday article, a Kansas city woman has filed a lawsuit in Kansas City, Kansas, alleging she was raped by an RCPD officer last year when an officer gave her a ride home from a party.
RCPD Public Information Officer Alexander Robinson indicated Director Brad Schoen is currently unavailable, but one point of clarification is that the officer was off-duty at the time in question–and the officer is no longer an RCPD employee, according to Robinson. RCPD is not named in the lawsuit.
The suit from the unidentified woman indicates she’d had between five and 10 drinks and she accepted the ride “in large part because he was a law enforcement officer and was in a position of trust.”The suit further alleges the officer knew the woman was intoxicated and “legally incapable of consenting to sexual intercourse.”
KMAN will continue to update as we get more information.
