A proposed memorandum of understanding for the Riley County EMS and Pottawatomie County EMS was presented to the Riley County commissioners on Thursday.
RCEMS Director David Adams presented the memo, which would help clarify the how the RCEMS and PCEMS would respond to the Blue Township area.
“This [memorandum]essentially states that if PCEMS provides full time ambulance coverage in this area, and that ambulance is on a 911 call and a second call comes in, then the RCEMS will come in and respond,” said Adams.
Adams stated that Pottawatomie County will be providing primary ambulance response to the township effective October 15th. He also added that if they do not cover this area with an ambulance, then primary emergency response will not be the responsibility of the RCEMS and they will only respond to time sensitive emergencies. If Riley County does respond, then they will bill Pottawatomie County for the trip.
“This [memorandum]is intended to provide clarity to the staffs of both of our agencies, as well as both counties’ respective 911 dispatcher centers so that everyone understands when RCEMS can be expected to calls for service in that area,” said Adams.
According to Adams, the Pottawatomie County EMS director wanted the agreement to be between just the two departments and not through their respective commissions, but Adams had concerns not going to the commissioners.
Commission Chairman Marvin Rodriguez agreed with Adams saying he wanted to have something official and in writing.
The Riley County commissioners decided to give the Pottawatomie County commission the opportunity to see the memo before signing it.
