On Friday July 29th and Saturday July 30th, 2016 the Riley County Police Department will be conducting two DUI Saturation Patrols. Officers involved in the Saturation Patrol will be looking for signs of impaired driving and other traffic violations. Motorists who show signs of alcohol and/or drug consumption will be evaluated and appropriate action will be taken. The purpose of this program is to place additional officers in and around the Manhattan area with the goal of detecting and deterring impaired driving. These patrols are the second and third, in a series of eight, which will be conducted this year. The Kansas Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Project provides the funding for the Saturation Patrol.
Police in Riley County began an investigation into the offense of aggravated indecent liberties with a child which occurred out-of-state on Tuesday. The crime was reported to the Riley County Police Department on Wednesday at approximately 4:00 PM. This investigation involves an 8-year-old female victim and a male suspect in his 70s. Due to the nature of this investigation no further information has been released.
Edward Cavenee, 32, of Manhattan was arrested while in the 1000 block of Yuma Street in Manhattan on Wednesday at approximately 5:55 PM. Cavenee was arrested on the offense of probation violation which was listed on a warrant with the original offense of violation of K.O.R.A. He was given a bond of $5,000.00 and at the time of this report was confined at the Riley County Jail.
Crystal Fredericks, 29, of Wakefield, Kansas was arrested while in the 400 block of East Riley Ave. in Ogden, Kansas on Wednesday at approximately 11:50 PM. Fredericks was arrested on the offenses of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking contraband into a correctional facility, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was given a bond of $17,000 and at the time of this report was confined at the Riley County Jail. This arrest stemmed from a traffic stop where methamphetamine was found after deploying a police K9.
