The Riley County Police Department has plans for a proposed service building expansion, but what wasn’t planned was the cost estimate of such a project.
The estimate brought forth to the Riley County Law Board Tuesday has a price tag of $775,000.

RCPD officials say an expansion is needed for storage of evidence and vehicles. A bulk of evidence is still being stored in the already cramped Riley County District Courthouse.
Schoen said one part of the expansion plan includes a room that would cause need for substantial earthwork due to its proximity to Wildcat Creek. He said that room alone contributes to two-thirds of the proposed cost of the expansion and may be reevaluated.
