Riley County Police are looking for a man identified as a suspect in a homicide reported Saturday near downtown Manhattan.

RCPD is attempting to locate Erick Sanchez-Chavez, 29, of Manhattan after identifying him as a person of interest in the death of Mark Rickenbaker, 36, of Manhattan.

Officers responded around 12:17 a.m. Saturday to the 800 block of Colorado Street for a reported welfare check on an injured man, identified as Rickenbaker. He was transported by ambulance to Via Christi Hospital with serious injuries to his body and died later that day from his injuries.

A police investigation determined Rickenbaker was involved in an altercation prior to police arrival.

Investigators believe the incident was isolated and additional details will be released as they become available.

Police said they want to talk to Sanchez-Chavez about the incident, and provided his description in a social media post asking the public for help locating him.

RCPD said members of the public should not approach or attempt to apprehend Sanchez-Chavez.

Information on his whereabouts can be shared by calling RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers.

This is a developing story.
