The Riley County Police Department is now offering a new way for you to help stop crime in the community.
Brad Jager, RCPD Captain, says the department is launching a new program called Project SafeCam which allows those with cameras on their business or on their homes to register their cameras. He tells KMAN that it is essentially a community camera registration program. Jager says the program has proven great success for several cities and towns across the country.
“It’s a way for us to get information about where those cameras are,” Jager says. “We also see it as a great partnership where folks can do things to make our community safer and work with us in partnership.”
Jager encourages everyone to register their cameras, but says the program is completely voluntary. He adds that the program is free and the list of cameras stays completely private.
“When we have those reports that we take, this is just another tool to try to identify people and vehicles, and stuff like that, that can help us catch and convict people for those crimes,” Jager adds.
The new RCPD program will launch April 1. Details and registration can be found on their website at rileycountypolice.org.
