The Riley County Police Department issued a citation for the offense of discharge of a weapon in the city limits to Taylor Pearson, 25, of Manhattan, on Friday at approximately 6:10 p.m. Police responded to the accidental discharge and were told that the firearm went off while Pearson was cleaning it. No injuries were reported.


Officers filed are investigating a physical altercation and vehicle theft between persons known to each other. Police listed Tyler Espinosa, 20, of Hutchinson, as the victim after being made aware of an incident between he and a 21-year-old male who was known to him. This incident involved a physical altercation and the theft of a 2009 Pontiac G6 valued at approximately $9,800. At the time of this report, no arrest had been made and the injuries sustained by Espinosa were minor.


RCPD arrested Corman Smith, 29, of Manhattan, on Saturday at approximately 10:30 p.m. while at the Riley County Police Department. Smith was arrested on the offenses of aggravated battery and domestic battery which gave him a bond of $10,000. At the time of this report he was confined at the Riley County Jail. This arrest stemmed from an incident that involved a 35-year-old female who is known to him. Officers noted that the victim sustained an injury which required medical treatment.


Emergency respondents were sent to the intersection of Casement Road and Knox Lane on Saturday at approximately 5:45 p.m. Police filed a traffic collision report involving a 1996 Ford SUV, driven by Caleb Astin, 19, of Manhattan, and a 2006 Toyota Camry, driven by Genita Silva, 33, also of Manhattan. Police found that while traveling west on Knox Lane the SUV collided with the passenger car. A citation was issued to Astin for the offense of failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign. Riley County EMS transported Silva and a passenger of her vehicle (unknown age at the time of this report) who resides in Fort Worth, Texas to Via Christi Hospital for the complaint of neck and back pain.


Police are investigating a report of aggravated burglary and criminal damage to property which occurred Sunday at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the 600 block of N. 11th Street in Manhattan. Police listed Justin Biglang-Awa, 26, of Manhattan, as the victim after a door to his home was damaged and a television and watch were taken. The total estimated loss was listed as $1,200 and at the time of this report, no arrests had been made. Police ask that anyone with information on this incident or unknown suspect contact the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Biglang-Awa was in another part of this house at the time of this crime.
