The Riley County Police Department and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a report of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound early Wednesday in the 3300 block of Shady Valley Drive. Upon arrival at about 5:45 a.m. police determined a single subject had lost his life inside of 3303 Shady Valley Drive due to a single gunshot wound to the head.

The Riley County Police Department identified the male subject as Nathan Karnopp, 26, of Manhattan. There is currently no evidence to support foul play.

This investigation is ongoing and an autopsy has been requested as would be normal in similar circumstances.

Riley County Police are investigating an aggravated battery that has sent one person to a medical care facility outside of Riley County. The aggravated battery is domestic related and information available for release is limited.

Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:15 police found a 59-year-old female had previously been struck in the face several times by a 52-year-old male suspect who is known to her. This battery caused significant injury to her head causing it to be classified as aggravated. Her current medical status is unknown at the time of this report.

After further investigation into this matter police were able to identify and locate the suspect and took him into custody Thursday. More information will follow and be included in the police activity post for Friday.

Officers with the Riley County Police Department filed a report for burglary Tuesday at approximately 12:45 PM while in the 200 block of Juliette Avenue. Rock Spings Rental LLC in Manhattan reported the crime after finding a property that was unoccupied had received significant damage.

In total $1,800 worth of damage was documented to various areas in the residence. Currently no arrests have been made and police ask that anyone with information contact the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers.
