Reba posted the news on her Facebook page saying, “He had been in the nursing home for a while and we’re very thankful he is not suffering anymore. He was a born and bred cowboy through and through. He had been sick for 5 years. It makes total sense to me, he always told us kids never to run your horse to the barn. He was just taking his time to go on home.”

Clark McEntire was born in Oklahoma on November 30, 1927 and went on to win the Rodeo World Championships in 1957, 1958 and 1961. He was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1979. He went on to play a major role in encouraging Reba to pursue a singing career when he told her she should sing the national anthem at the 1974 National Finals Rodeo. It was at that performance that recording artist Red Steagall discovered Reba.
