Riley County commissioners have agreed to move forward with relocating the Riley County Police Department’s Aggieville substation.
RCPD deputy director Erin Freidline presented a proposal Monday that would allow the department to move from its current space at 1113 Moro Street into a larger storefront space inside the new Hampton Inn being developed by Back 9 Development.
The new space would include separate interview rooms, improved restroom and decontamination areas, storage space and a private entrance allowing officers to transport detainees without moving through crowds or disrupting hotel patrons. Currently RCPD pays $1,000 per month, while the new space is expected to be closer to $3,000 per month. The proposed lease includes an initial five-year term with multiple renewal options.
