Officials with the National Weather Service in Topeka are predicting a severe ice storm may threaten the region over the weekend, beginning Friday night.
Forecasts show possible freezing rain for the Manhattan area Friday night with greater chances Saturday and into Sunday. Chad Omitt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Topeka told KMAN Wednesday ice accumulations of at least an inch are expected.

Omitt said downed power lines due to ice weighing on tree limbs is a concern and that everyone in the region should be prepared for outages if the storm reaches its potential.
