Former professional wrestler Jesse “The Body” Ventura was sworn in as Minnesota’s 37th governor

The only Reform Party candidate to ever win statewide office, Ventura had shocked the political establishment by defeating Attorney General Hubert H. (Skip) Humphrey III and St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman in an upset victory

The tallest man made structure ever built, The Burj Khalifa, officially opened in Dubai 

It’s 2,717 feet, which beat out the previous tallest building, the Taipei 101, by almost 1,000 feet
