According to Billboard, the inspiration for the disco-leaning track came from a scene the 1980 movie Airplane! spoofing John Travolta‘s disco-king role in Saturday Night Fever.

Watching the movie, Thomas was taken with the Bee Gees hit they used in the film, “Stayin’ Alive.” He then went online to find out how to play those disco chords on his guitar, and incorporated that sound into writing “Make Me Wanna” the very next day.

“Make Me Wanna” will most likely be the last single from Thomas’s debut album.  He hints the song’s adventurous spirit will continue on his sophomore album.  Thomas tells Billboard, “It really is a great lead-in to what’s gonna be coming on the next record.”

Thomas is on the road with Miranda Lambert‘s Platinum tour this weekend, with shows in Illinois, Indiana and Kansas.
