MANHATTAN — The iconic voice of a native Kansan is slated to be the new voice of TV news network, CNN.
Dave Lewis has agreed to terms with the network which has been struggled the last few years with credibility and declining viewership. “CNN approached me last fall about their desire to “freshen up” their presence,” Lewis said in a statement released today. “They felt my voice in today’s world of “Fake News” would be a big step in bringing viewers back.”
Lewis did not reveal the financial terms he and CNN agreed to, other than to say he was looking forward to spending more time with his son, pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and adding to his growing collection Lionel Trains and Hot Wheels. “Their people contacted my people and we were able to negotiate a rewarding deal over a Vistaburger and a Chocolate shake.”
One key aspect about the deal, Lewis said, is he wouldn’t have to relocate from his residence in Lower Manhattan. “I have beefed up the technology in my home studio and will be able to share my talents without leaving my house.”
Lewis is celebrating his 40th year as a broadcaster, announcer, and entertainment entrepreneur. “I feel like my ship has finally come in. He’s been dubbed as the “Voice of Manhattan,” the “Voice of K-State,” and the “Voice of Johnny Kaw.”
In his prepared statement released today, Lewis included one of his trademarked phrases from his announcing days at K-State to emphasize his new responsibilities; “I just hope to make people smile or laugh, even if it’s for only ‘one minute.”
