There is high confidence that a winter storm will affect the region this weekend. There is the potential for significant winter weather with accumulations of snow and ice. Highest snow totals north of I-70 with highest ice potential south of I-70.

A severe winter weather watch will be in effect on Saturday for the region including Riley, Pottawatomie and Geary Counties.

Also, Clay and Wabaunsee County will be under that advisory from beginning at 9 am on Saturday and that will remain throughout the day Sunday.

Potential hazards with this storm include anywhere between four to 11 inches of snow with higher amounts expected north of I-70. Ice is expected to accumulate to two tenths of an inch south of I-70. Winds could gust anywhere between 35 and 45 miles per hour.

A bitterly cold air mass is forecast to move into the region early next week. The coldest periods will be from Monday through Wednesday mornings. Wind chill values are expected to fall as low as 15 degrees below zero across the area. Be prepared for the cold weather.
