During her 90-minute set, she revisited Sugarland hits like “Baby Girl” and “Stay,” previewed her forthcoming album and tipped her hat to the pop, rock and rap worlds. Though Playing with Fire isn’t due until spring, she gave the audience a glimpse of new tunes “Drunk in Heels” and “Chaser,” spicing up “Sugar” with Salt ‘N’ Pepa’s nineties hits “Whatta Man” and “Shoop.”
“Country music celebrates realness and it heals,” she said of her lead single, “Unlove You.” “I hope it guts you in the most beautiful way possible.”
Pop star Sara Bareilles, best known for her 2007 hit “Love Song,” joined her to sing “She Used to Be Mine” from her new Broadway musical Waitress, which opens in March. Along the way, Jennifer sprinkled in Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire,” as well as a solo version of her chart-topping Bon Jovi duet, “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.”
Next up, Jennifer and tourmates Brandy Clark, Lindsay Ell and Tara Thompson play Upper Darby, Pennsylvania Friday night.
