Randee St. NicholasTrisha Yearwood has just booked a starring role in what should be one of the most interesting TV events in recent memory. She’ll  play Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Fox’s two-hour live musical event The Passion, set to air on Palm Sunday.

Combining the talents behind High School Musical, Glee and Rock of Ages, the new production re-imagines the last hours of Jesus through popular songs, performed live in modern-day New Orleans. Tyler Perry is set to host and narrate events as they’re staged live at iconic locations in the Mardi Gras city, culminating with a procession of hundreds carrying a 20-foot illuminated cross from the Superdome to the banks of the Mississippi River.

You can catch Trisha’s performance Sunday, March 20 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

Though it’s been awhile, this isn’t the first time the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year and Food Network star has acted on the major networks. In the nineties, she guest-starred on episodes of JAG and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman on CBS.
