A 15-time Grammy award winner will headline this year’s Symphony in the Flint Hills.

Organizers of the annual event announced Thursday that renowned banjo player Bela Fleck, the longtime frontman for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones will be the featured performer alongside the Kansas City Symphony. This year’s event takes place June 13 at the Wade Pasture near Eskridge in Wabaunsee County.

Fleck has been nominated in more categories than any other artist in the history of the award.

Tickets go on sale to the general public March 7, with Wabaunsee County residents getting first-dibs at a pre-sale beginning Monday. Last year’s show was canceled due to high winds. Tickets are $95 for adults, children 12 and under are $50.

In the event of weather impacting this year’s event, there are three contingency plans in place:
  • Plan A: On June 13, event goers will enjoy the Signature Event as planned with all-day activities and special guest artist, Béla Fleck, with the Kansas City Symphony.
  • Plan B: In the event of a weather postponement on June 13, the Signature Event will take place on the rain date of June 14. However, Fleck will not perform because of a pre-existing conflict.
  • Plan C: If weather cancels the weekend events completely, all GA ticketholders will be eligible for a full refund.
