The 9th annual C. Clyde Jones Fun Run 5K and Midge’s Mile Fun Walk will still take place this year, albeit a few changes.

With the ongoing pandemic, C. Clyde Jones himself says the event was almost cancelled as they were having trouble locating a venue. After speaking with the City of Manhattan, the run will happen on September 26 at City Park.

“We’re putting in every putting into place every safety protocol that we can think of, to make sure everyone who comes out will be safe. We’re requiring masks and be keeping people at proper social distances,” he said.

Numbers of runners will take off at different distances as well.  Along with the live event, a virtual option will also be available, to allow individuals to run anytime or anywhere, and still be counted in the event. Jones says he is excited to how many people have chose this option, and where they come from.

“I have two people signed up from Germany right now. That’s really exciting to have the run reach that far. It’s the first time we’ve ever had that happen. Of course it couldn’t happen without that virtual option,” Jones said.

There will also be no competition this year for medals.

“Everybody is going to get a medal, no matter what they do. We decided that because of the circumstances that it wouldn’t be possible to have team or individual competition,” Jones said.

Proceeds from the event benefit Shepherd’s Crossing.
