A Florida man was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after his pickup struck ice and collided with a semi on Interstate 70 in Riley County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:51 p.m. on Dec. 28 near mile marker 315, about 0.3 miles west of Dry Creek Road. Troopers say a 2008 Toyota Tacoma driven by 66-year-old Stephen S. Bolin of Lake Helen, Florida, was headed west when it hit a patch of ice and spun out of control.
A 1986 Peterbilt semi traveling behind the pickup then struck the passenger side of Bolin’s vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest in the median.
Bolin was transported to Stormont Vail Health Flint Hills in Junction City with suspected minor injuries. The semi driver, 45-year-old Chad M. Taylor of Willet, New York, was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
