Manhattan fire crews are investigating an apparent case of arson after multiple fires were set at an apartment building east of Aggieville Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded just after 4 p.m. to 815 Moro Street, where they found six air conditioning units burning at a three-story complex. Crews brought the flames under control within about five minutes thanks to a quick response.

Many of the residents were home at the time, but officials say no injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at approximately $70,000, primarily to the AC units.

Fire officials say the fires were intentionally set and the Riley County Police Department is investigating the incident as a case of aggravated arson.

Police had not released any further details as of Monday evening.
