Wabaunsee County Sheriff Eric Kirsch is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the successful prosecution of those responsible for extensive damage to county-owned construction equipment near Alta Vista.

According to Kirsch, two excavators belonging to the Wabaunsee County Road and Bridge Department were deliberately damaged over Labor Day weekend at a worksite on Old K-10 Road.

Authorities said someone cut all the hydraulic lines on one excavator and poured approximately two gallons of water into the hydraulic system of another.

The estimated cost of repairs ranges from $40,000 to more than $100,000, with the expenses falling on county taxpayers.

Kirsch said deputies have conducted an extensive investigation but are now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office at 785-765-3323 and reference Case No. 26-927.
