Road conditions are improving, but state and local officials continue to warn drivers to use caution if they must travel.
Riley County Public Works Crews have made good progress but county officials say blow overs are causing problems on asphalt and gravel roads. Winds will continue to be a factor for the next several days. Riley County Commissioner John Ford took time to thank the county’s snow plow operators and emergency responders publicly during KMAN’s In Focus Tuesday.
Ford says the county is in good position with plenty of road treating materials for Public Works crews, for what looks to be a snowy winter ahead.
Overnight lows will dip into the teens over the next few nights and there is a chance for another round of winter weather Thursday night into Friday. Daytime highs will struggle to get above single digits by this weekend.
Statewide, roads are also improving in some locations, though the Kansas Department of Transportation says many are still completely snow covered or icy. The westbound lanes of I-70 remained closed from Salina to Oakley as of 2:30 p.m.
